Family Programs: Play Sechelt
Sunday September 21 | 12-4PM
Free, Open to All | Sunshine Coast Arts Center
Play Sechelt is a community forward project using visual art as a tool to create a more connected Sechelt.
Play Sechelt at its core facilitates environments that echoes the notion of “Land Between Two Waters”, by recruiting the crabs and sea stars, who both live on land and sea, to represent the unique cultural relationship that is created by living between two bodies of salt water. Through lyrical written word, poetry is used by Play Sechelt to express the sentiments of compassion and empathy for one another. This community centered interactive project is beckoning a vibrant, healthier Sechelt. Where art tells the individual stories of our people making us all proud to be locals.
Meet the Artists:
Olivia Rose and London Allcock are two local young artists who have founded Play Sechelt as a project to give attention to under-utilized spaces within our community. Together they are creating art that will inspire the Coast through bursts of color, heartfelt text, imagery from our local oceans and collaborations done with directly with the community.
The designs of crab and sea stars are created by local artist Derek Georgson from xwemalhkwu Nation.
