Durational Taiko celebrating the Equinox

Saturday September 20, 2025 | 2:00pm

Free, Open to All | Sunshine Coast Arts Center Garden

For thousands of years, taiko has been part of traditional ceremonies that bring entire communities together—lasting for hours or even days—as a form of collective healing and resilience. On September 20th, from 2 PM to 9 PM, taiko players from the Vancouver and Sunshine Coast taiko community will gather for Durational Taiko – Equinox 2025, a ceremonial offering in honour of our chosen and biological ancestors.

This is not a performance, but a meditation—for both players and any witnesses. The public is welcome to observe in silence, through deep listening, stillness, or by resonating with the rhythms. Approximately 20 taiko players will drum.

Public Invitation: Witnesses are invited to observe and meditate through deep listening and stillness. One handmade practice drum will be available for those who feel called to play. At times, traditional pieces will be played. If you choose to join in, we encourage you to support the pulse by playing the backbeat or grounding rhythms. This is a collective space for healing and connection—please tune in and play in a way that complements the energy of the group.

Organizers: Kage and Anny Lin.
