Enjoy English tea and a curated heritage tour of Helen McCall and Helen Dawe's photo collections.

Inviting all Sunshine Coast women named Helen and friends to an afternoon spot of English tea, biscuits, and a guided tour of the “Through Helen’s Eye’s” heritage exhibit. The exhibit pays tribute to the Coast’s first female commercial photographer, Helen McCall, and the first archivist Helen Dawe.

Helen McCall will be at the event, if only in spirit!

SAND CAST CANDLE MAKING

SUNDAY OCTOBER 6

10AM to NOON

Sunshine Coast Arts Centre, Medusa St., Sechelt

Come and make your own sand cast candles! Trudi d’Ambrumenil will guide participants through the process. Bring shells or rocks or what-nots to embed in your candle and watch the fusion process. We will provide the wax, the sand, and instruction. A fun and easy way to make creative candles for all ages.

Children under 13 require adult supervision.

Always wanted to try out Cold Wax painting.? Learn from expert coast visual artist Jen Drysdale as she shows you how to apply this technique in a variety of ways.

WAX,PAINT, TOOLS & CANVAS MATERIALS SUPPLIED - Only thing you need to bring is your enthusiasm. If you have something you want to add to your paintings like old papers, dry leaves, book pages, or tissue paper, please bring along. Each participant will receive three 9" x 12" canvas panels to work on - and take home your creations!

Join shíshálh Nation tour guide and anthropologist Candace Campo on a totem tour walk in Sechelt. The art, stories, and history of the shíshálh Nation will be shared and explored on the walk, as you learn about local totems, the carvers, the stone sculptures and historical buildings. A great way to learn about local history, lore, current events, and the First Nation’s people who have lived in the Sechelt area for generations. At the end of the tour there will be an opportunity to carve a notch in the syiyaya Reconciliation Project totem in progress.

GLASS BEAD MAKING DEMO

Paint by number public mural painting - PUBLIC EVENT

Presenting for the first time on the Coast, Paintillio is a collaborative mural paint by number special event. Everyone is welcome to paint a part of our large canvas in Trail Bay Centre. Northeast mall entrance. DROP BY and pick up a paint brush. Instruction provided.

PEWTER CASTING DEMO EVENT

WEDNESDAY OCTOBER 16 - 5PM to 7PM

Learn a simple method of casting pewter than can be accomplished on your home stovetop. (No forge required) This method utilizes an RTV silicone rubber to make a mold from a master. The demonstration will produce a miniature pewter baubles, one for every participant.

BRAZILIAN “FORRO” DANCE WORKSHOP

SATURDAY OCTOBER 19 - 2PM TO 3:30PM

Coast Academy of Dance, Wharf Avenue, Sechelt

Join Brazilian dancer Andrea Monteiro in learning the basic steps of Forro (pronounced “Foho”) dance. Forro is a fun and casual folk type dance from northeastern Brazil combined with the energetic moves of Coco de Roda (pronounced “hoda.”) It’s fun! It’s hot! It’s Forro!

Bring a dance partner if you want (but not mandatory). Try out your new steps at the Forro do Cana show Saturday night (see performance events) and watch three Frevo and Forro dancers on the big stage. Dance partners and singles are welcome to participate on the dance floor. Show off what you learn in the afternoon workshop and dance the night away, Latin style!
