DANCERS OF DAMELAHAMID - A 2016 HIGHLIGHT
"An amazing show!"
FOLLOWING A SUCCESSFUL OTTAWA PREMIER THIS SUMMER AT THE NATIONAL ARTS CENTRE,
FLICKER combined west coast graphic designs with a unique sceno-graphic hybrid of projected
environments, rich costumes and live-action shadow dance. The latest work from artistic director,
choreographer and dance artist Margaret Grenier, FLICKER is a story inspired by her northwest coast Gitxan
heritage. The Gitxan "people of the river mists," are part of the coastal group of Aboriginal cultures with a rich history
of masked dance. Just as light shimmers, FLICKER represents the moments through which one can cross
space and time, as the masked dancers journey in and out of the "spirit world" of their ancestors.
The Kinnickinick Dance Group introduced this special performance, presented in honour of the shíshálh
Nation's 30 year anniversary of self-governance.
